The position of the lighting that suggests that she is further heading into the darker shadows is perfect. She seems so innocent, so at peace with the fact that she's dead. She also seems rather nervous, which is why she isn't progressing forward.
The addition of the kitten makes it all the more innocent an image. It reminds us that even in death, no matter what we've done there is some level of innocence that we cling to. The transparency at her legs, where you can see just a little bit of the kitten tail through the flesh is perfect.
